We carried out this inspection under Section 60 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 as part of our regulatory functions. This inspection was planned to check whether the provider is meeting the legal requirements and regulations associated with the Health and Social Care Act 2008, to look at the overall quality of the service, and to provide a rating for the service under the Care Act 2014.
Angelina and Arnie, I wanted you to know that I will be forever indebted to you for all the things you’ve done for my Michael the past 8-9 years. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that you watched over him when I could not , that you’ve always provided excellent medical care , always provided a good quality life for Michael and that you genuinely care about him. I know the only reason he is alive today is because of your care and your kindness.
In Canada, such privately run for-profit and not-for-profit facilities also exist. Because of cost factors, some provinces operate government-funded public facilities run by each province's or territory's Ministry of Health or subsidize the cost of the facility. In these care homes, elderly Canadians may pay for their care on a sliding scale, based on annual income. The scale that they are charged on depends on whether they are considered "Long Term Care" or "Assisted Living." For example, l in January 2010 seniors living in British Columbia's government-subsidized "Long Term Care" (also called "Residential Care") started pay 80% of their after-tax income unless their after-tax Income is less than $16,500. The "Assisted Living" tariff is calculated more simply as 70% of the After-Tax Income.[22] As seen in the province of Ontario, there are waiting lists for many long-term care homes, though, so families may need to resort to hiring home health care or paying for a stay in a private retirement home.[23]
One relatively new service in the United States that can help keep older people in their homes longer is respite care.[18] This type of care allows caregivers the opportunity to go on vacation or a business trip and know that their family member has good quality temporary care, for without this help the elder might have to move permanently to an outside facility. Another unique type of care cropping in U.S. hospitals is called acute care of elder units, or ACE units, which provide "a homelike setting" within a medical center specifically for older adults.[19]

Considered to be one of the best stroke rehabilitation centers in America, the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, also known as RIC, takes care of more patients who have suffered from strokes than most other hospitals in the entire country. The medical staff includes specialists in physical medicine and rehabilitative techniques who are renowned for their expertise. Some of the finest speech language pathologists will guide your loved one in relearning how to speak or swallow if necessary. RIC also offers some innovative technologies that are hard to find at other stroke centers. Physical therapy is complemented by patient training, education, and support groups to maximize the treatment’s effectiveness.
Intravenous injection of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA). This injection of recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), also called alteplase, is considered the gold standard treatment for ischemic stroke. An injection of tPA is usually given through a vein in the arm. This potent clot-busting drug ideally is given within three hours. In some instances, tPA can be given up to 4.5 hours after stroke symptoms begin.
Innovative programs. For medical help such as changing dressings, providing post-surgical rehabilitation, overseeing medications, aiding with physical therapy, or helping with mobility devices, you'll want home health care provided by caregiver who's gone through training and is being supervised by a nurse. (Keep in mind that licensing and certification requirements vary by state; you'll want to ask lots of questions about your caregiver's qualifications.)
Using state-of-the-art technologies, we care for some of the most complex stroke cases seen anywhere. Our experienced teams – including board-certified physicians, physical and occupational therapists, certified rehabilitation registered nurses and neuropsychologists – work in hospital, skilled nursing and at-home settings. These capabilities have helped us become the first multi-site stroke rehabilitation program to earn certification from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
